Dennis Helfer and Elaine Helfer were the parents of Helfer who was born. Helfer is of German, English and Swedish heritage. She attended the William E. Hay Composite High School of Stettler in Alberta. She lived and worked at the farm of her family along with her three sisters, Trena, Tammy and Tara.
